How to
Think Together
Group cognition is a skill, not a vibe
a group can be smarter than any member, or dumber than all of them. the difference is method.
The Protocol · 5 steps
1
Diverge before you converge
gather many ideas before judging any. mixing the two kills the good ones early.
2
Make thinking visible
write ideas where everyone sees them. shared text beats competing memories.
3
Separate the idea from the person
critique the claim, not the human. safety is what lets a group think honestly.
4
Invite the quiet voices
the best insight is often in the person not talking. draw it out on purpose.
5
Decide, then commit
argue hard, then align. a group that can disagree and still move is rare and strong.
Run it: in your next group chat, write the idea down where everyone can see it before debating.
“none of us is as smart as all of us, if we think together on purpose.”
TL;DR diverge → make it visible → idea not person → invite the quiet → decide + commit
